Keller: True friend’s worth can’t be measured

I hear many people brag about how many friends they have. The question is: How many really true friends does one have?

What is a true friend?

A friend is a rare person who asks how you are and then waits to hear the answer.

A friend knocks before entering, not after leaving.

A friend is a person who can step on your toes without messing up your shine.

A friend cares.

A friend can laugh with you and cry with you and not be embarrassed to do either one.

A friend is honestly interested in everything about you and can be trusted with the most private information in the world.

A friend wants you to be closer to Christ than to them.

A friend speaks to you when others won’t.

A friend knows all your faults, but likes you because of your heart.

Study the above. Don’t ask yourself how many friends you have; ask yourself how many people you are befriending.

God’s Word in Proverbs shares the following:

“A friend loves at all times…” Proverbs 17:17

“A man who has friends must himself be friendly…” Proverbs 18:24

“Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” Proverbs 27:6

The best vitamin for making true friends is B1.
