RESERVE — A Reserve pedestrian was killed Friday night after being struck by a vehicle, authorities said.

Louisiana State Police Trooper Melissa Matey said shortly before 11 p.m. Friday, State Police investigated the fatal crash on River Road near East 22nd Street that involved a pedestrian, identified as Clinton Perrilloux, 33, of Reserve.

Preliminary investigation, Matey said, revealed a 2008 Chevrolet Impala driven by Chase Fergerson, 29, was traveling west on River Road, just west of the intersection with East 22nd Street.

“Perrilloux was attempting to cross the travel lanes of (River Road) and was struck by the Impala,” Matey said. “Perrilloux was transported to Ochsner River Parishes Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“Speed and impairment are not suspected; however, Fergerson submitted to a breath test and no detectable alcohol was found in his system. Toxicology tests for Perrilloux are pending an autopsy.”

Fergerson has not been cited for his role in the collision, and on Monday Matey said the crash remains under investigation and no one has been arrested.

Matey said low-lit areas are common along stretches of River Road, but added she was not familiar with the particular lighting where the crash took place, nor was she aware if the victim’s clothing color contributed to poor visibility of the driver.

A final State Police report, which will include information on the autopsy performed locally, will be available in six to eight weeks, Matey said.
