SCC’s top high school students recognized

LAPLACE — The 2015 St. Charles Catholic High School Students of the Year were recently recognized at a January school wide Mass.

The top 8th and 12th grade students were announced by Drew Cupit and were recognized with a plaque and a SCC gift pack.

SCC’s 8th Grade Student of the Year is Hailey Michelle Louque, and the 12th Grade Student of the Year is Emily Louise Bergeron.

Both students maintain a GPA over 3.5 and participate in activities at school and in the community.

Louque performs community service through St. Vincent DePaul and through her church, St. Hubert.

She is an honor roll student and won 2nd place in the Fleur de Lis Pageant.

Her future plans are to attend medical school to become a pediatrician.

Bergeron is the student council vice-president and founder and student manager of SCC’s Instagram account.

She is also the captain of the SCC Cheerleaders.

She is a member of the Beta Club, Stagehands, National Honor Society, French Club, Mu Alpha Theta, SCC’s 30+ Club and Retreat Team.

In addition, she has received Gold, Silver and Bronze Service Awards at SCC.

Bergeron plans to attend Louisiana State University and major in chemical engineering. 

To be selected as Student of the Year, a student must earn a cumulative 3.5 grade point average and be in grades 8 or 12 and demonstrate service and leadership.

All students of the year must compile a portfolio, write a biographical sketch and be interviewed by a committee.
