RESERVE — Students from the nursing class at East St. John High School have been receiving on-the-job training at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve.

The enthusiasm with which these students have approached this assignment is exemplary.

They have assisted the certified nursing assistants at the facility in serving meals to residents of the home, many of whom cannot assist themselves, one of whom is blind and another who has very limited vision.

The care, compassion and patience shown by these students when dealing with the residents is heart-warming.

Their teacher, Chanel Zeno, is constantly monitoring the students and offering words of advice.

Some of the students will go on to become certified nursing assistants after graduation, some will pursue a career in nursing and some may decide to become doctors.
