RESERVE  — After a pair of recent losses, the Rebels bounced back to win two shutouts, taking wins over Lee Magnet, 3-0, and Ascension Christian, 6-0.

Colton Duhon led the way against Ascension Christian, scoring a trio of goals. Payton LaFountain, JuJuan Bell and Tyler Gauthier each scored goals as well for Riverside.

Elliot Veron scored twice and Duhon added another goal to lead Riverside past Lee Magnet.

“We played against some good teams and lost some tough ones,” Riverside coach Jonathan Reed said. “All of the teams in our district are very competitive. It’s exciting to see some of these young guys step up and lead us to wins. Colton Duhon scored four goals in two games. We’ve got a few guys scoring besides Tyler now, and everyone is buying in.”

Reed said Gauthier, the team’s leading scorer this season and last, has been leading on and off the field.

“I’ve told him, great players inspire everyone else to do great things,” Reed said. “If our guys feed off his ability on the field and his leadership off of it, we can do no wrong.”

Reed said the Rebels, sporting a record of 5-6-1, are starting to build a foundation after years of struggles on the soccer field.

“We’re going to have everyone back next year,” he said. “This is a team that’s starting to gel. We’re not satisfied, and we’re planning to keep reaching higher as we hit the home stretch of this season.”
