PAULINA — St. Peter Chanel eighth grade students have been “bookworms” this year in Amy Lundy’s English and literature classes.

After starting the year off with nonfiction and various types of essays, they moved into Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart.”

Students wrote a character profile on the main character in Poe’s short story.

The English I class started the year off by reading “The Giver” and writing an essay on it.

They read “Lord of the Flies” next and wrote a compare/contrast essay on the two main characters, while eighth grade English completed literature circles for the novel “Flight 29 Down: Static.”

Following that, students will then complete another novel study, which encompasses necessary writing, reading and group skills.

To finish out the year, students will read and learn about different poems and figurative language. Upon completion of the unit, they will create their own poetry portfolio.
