GRAMERCY — Relay For Life of St. James Parish will be held May 16 at the Lutcher Recreation Park, and the holiday spirit shown last month should have no problem continuing for another four months.

Relay For Life of St. James Parish held the first Love Lights a Tree event in December, which included a Christmas tree lighting to memorialize and honor those who have been touched by cancer.

The event was held at the St. James Parish Welcome Center.

Christmas tree ornaments were available to purchase in honor or in memory of a loved one or friend and 89 ornaments were purchased.

Family members and friends that attended hung the ornaments they purchased.

Ornaments purchased that have not already been picked up from the St. James Parish Welcome Center will be delivered to the person that purchased them.

Leadership Team members said the event was  special because of the Living Christmas Tree carolers, Deacon Alfred Adams blessing the tree, the St. Peter Chanel Catholic School bell choir performing and survivor Gwendolyn Jones speaking.

Dr. Laura Chauvin of St. James Parish Hospital was the event sponsor, and Platinum sponsors for 2015 currently include Mosaic and Nucor.
