RESERVE — Maddie Duhon and Taylor Aubert each scored two goals and Toni Perrin added another as the Riverside girls soccer team earned a 6-0 district opening victory over St. Charles Catholic Tuesday night.

“It’s a rivalry, and we wanted to come out and play our best,” Aubert said. “We’ve been playing pretty well and tonight we wanted to pick up where we left off (before the holidays).”

The Rebels (5-3) led 4-0 at halftime and added a pair of goals to close things out in the second half.

“Yeah, they were ready for it tonight,” Riverside coach Mert Deger said. “We played well against them last year and got two big wins, and we obviously wanted to keep that up and come out with that same kind of intensity. We’ve got two more tough games coming up and we needed to prepare ourselves.”

Deger said he felt the team did a good job of maintaining possession of the ball in the first half.

“We were passing the ball well and creating a lot of chances for ourselves,” he said. “I liked our possession game. In the second half, I felt like we took our foot off the gas a bit. But overall, our possession game was the key to the win.”

Riverside hosts Parkview Baptist at 1 p.m. today in district action.
