LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office officials reversed course Tuesday evening, announcing two men involved in a shooting were not brothers as reported by the Sheriff’s Office earlier.

The Sheriff’s Office said on its Facebook page, “SJSO was made aware that the victim and suspect are not brothers but are related and are possibly 1st cousins. Investigators have not determined a motive at this time. The identities of all parties involved will be made public later.”

Deputies responded to the 100 block of West 3rd Street in LaPlace just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, discovering a victim was shot in the leg and the suspect fled on foot.

Authorities said the victim was taken to University Hospital and was uncooperative with officers.

The shooting suspect has not been located.
