RESERVE — Emily C. Watkins Elementary School Principal Antoinette Robinet was presented with the FDL Altruism Award by Blessed to Be a Blessing for the Vision is Love Homework Hut at the Dec. 11 St. John the Baptist Parish School Board meeting.

The non-profit organization presents the award each year to an outstanding citizen who has given of themselves in St. John the Baptist Parish.

Robinet worked with Blessed to Be a Blessing to establish the Homework Hut initiative, an after-school tutoring program that has grown from 20 children four years ago to 300 this year.

Emily C. Watkins was the first school to join the tutoring program, which works directly with school officials to identify students’ weaknesses and help them improve during tutoring sessions offered four days a week.

In addition to the award, Robinet was presented with the keys to the parish from Parish President Natalie Robottom’s office and letters of recognition from local legislators.
