LAPLACE — A 16-year-old male was arrested at his school Monday after three teenagers say they were the targets of gunfire Friday evening in LaPlace, authorities said.
Sheriff Mike Tregre said detectives booked the juvenile with illegal use of weapons and assault by drive-by shooting, adding Tuesday morning the suspect remained detained pending the outcome of the juvenile detention hearing.
Deputies first res-ponded to the 1500 block of Delta Road in LaPlace’s Belle Pointe Subdivision after gunshots were heard in the area at 5:45 p.m. Friday.
Deputies spoke with the complainant, who reported her 11-year-old son ran in the house saying he heard a gunshot.
The complainant said her 15-year-old nephew, who was down the block, also ran in the house saying someone was shooting at him.
“The 15-year-old juvenile told deputies that a tan or brown Ford Explorer passed and someone fired a gunshot at him and two friends, 16- and 14-year-old boys,” Tregre said.
Anyone with information regarding this shooting is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS.
