RESERVE — Riverside’s Lady Rebels has gone 2-1 in its past three soccer games, falling to Lusher Wednesday 1-0 but besting St. Martin’s and Houma Christian, 5-1 and 2-0, respectively.

Taylor Aubert scored four goals for Riverside in the victory over St. Martin’s, while Maddie Duhon added another. Against Houma Christian, Caitlin Roussel and Aubert each scored a goal to lead the Rebels.

“We had a really good showing against St. Martin’s,” Riverside coach Mert Deger said. “Taylor, Cookie and Maddie were connecting really well. We went up two goals in the first half and as the game went on, we had a chance to give our younger girls some on-field experience.”

He said it was a breakout game for Aubert, who has been moved to forward this season after playing the past three seasons as a defender.

“She was unstoppable (against St. Martin’s),” Deger said. “We got behind their defensive line and she pushed one through every single time. We have very high hopes for her on the offensive side.”

The offense didn’t click as well against Lusher. The Lions scored 20 minutes into the first half Wednesday and RA couldn’t respond.

“We had a hard time finding openings,” Deger said. “They packed it back defensively. Especially offensively, we’re still learning and the girls are developing chemistry. We had some chances but we just couldn’t finish.

“We have a lot of new starters, so that means we have to rely even more on our experienced girls. They’re producing a lot for us so far, but we’ll need even more. I believe we’ll be clicking by district time.”
