LOCKPORT — A LaPlace man was involved in a fatal wreck this week that remains under investigation, authorities said.
Michael Walker, 44, of Laplace was driving a 2005 Peterbilt tractor trailer when he pulled onto Louisiana 1 from a private drive and attempted to make a northbound turn onto Louisiana 1 shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to Louisiana State Police Troop C spokesman Evan Harrell.
“The Peterbilt pulled into the path of the southbound Ford, causing the Ford to strike the side of the Peterbilt,” Harrell said. “Walker, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash. (Ronald Carter), who was not wearing a seat belt (while driving a 2010 Ford Transit minivan), received serious injuries and was transported to LSU Interim Hospital in New Orleans, where he later died from his injuries.”
Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash for Carter, 21, of Lockport. Harrell said Walker submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement.
“This crash remains under investigation,” Harrell said.
