EDGARD — West St. John High School’s chapter of the National Art Honor Society decorated a tree for this year’s Celebration in the Oak’s Gallery of Children’s Trees in New Orleans City Park.
Preparations began early in the year after the club voted Candace Roussel’s idea of “Christmas in Candyland” as the theme.
Students created a variety of delicious sweets that include gumballs, candy canes, a gingerbread man, a gumball machine, a cupcake and lollipops. The tree was topped with a star that carries the WSJH name and was painted the school colors of blue and white.
A field trip to decorate the tree was made possible by a grant given to the PTO by Dow Chemical. The tree will be on display until Celebration in the Oaks closes on Jan. 3.
