Members of the St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District’s curriculum team stepped out of the office and back in front of the classroom during the past few weeks with the goal of taking their professional learning and support to a new level.

Members of the Curriculum and Instruction Department spent time observing classes at Garyville-Mt. Airy Math and Science Magnet School, and then spent five days teaching.

The purpose of the experience was two-fold.

First, with changes in the curriculum this year and the intense focus that has been placed on English/Language Arts and Math due to the Common Core State Standards, the team felt it was important to experience teaching in this new climate.

Secondly, the team used the experience as an opportunity to shoot model video lessons of instruction reflective of the English/Language Arts and math shifts that will be provided to school principals for their use.
