Joseph was a non-faculty CECP football coach this season.

“Juan Joseph was not just an employee of this school system, but an important part of the community,” George said. “Our prayers are with his family, as well as the entire West St. John High family.”

Extra counselors were at West St. John High School campus Monday to assist students and staff members in dealing with his loss.

Joseph, a coach at West St. John High School since 2011 and former teacher at the school, was also an alumnus and a member of the Rams 2003 and 2004 Class 2A State Championship teams.

Baton Rouge Police said Joseph of Edgard was shot in the parking lot of 4700 Bennington Ave. around 2 a.m. Sunday after a brief argument.

Joseph was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
