SCC’s Cook-off satisfies

LAPLACE — Nov. 7 marked the eighth annual SCC Alumni Cook-off.
Alumni Brock Anderson chaired the event along with the assistance of Alumni Billy Roussel.
“We all enjoy this Friday night pre-football Homecoming event each year, because it brings our SCC Alumni and the entire community together,” Courtney Millet, St. Charles Catholic High School director, said. “We appreciate the support of our wonderful SCC alumni.”
Twelve teams cooked dishes that ranged from charbroiled oysters to shrimp stuffed pistolettes. The cook-off began prior to the homecoming game.
The judges tasted and scored the many delicious dishes. Judges for the battle of the paddle were New Orleans Saints Special Teams Coach Greg McMahon, Diversified Well Logging President Richard Klibert, St. John the Baptist Parish Coroner Dr. Christy Montegut, Reinhart Food Service Employee Gary Western and Justice of the Peace Greg “Za” Maurin.
The 2014 winner of the SCC Alumni Cook-off was Chef Poncho Roussel, who cooked shrimp ettouffe served over fried catfish. Roussel was sponsored by his son Casey Roussel, a 1998 graduate. Roussel was awarded the SCC paddle decorated by SCC art students.
