PARADIS — J.B. Martin Middle School in Paradis announced its 2014-15 Student of the Year — Peyton Tastet — recently at a school pep rally.

Peyton is the son of John and Hulonda Tastet of Des Allemands and was chosen from several finalists who had to meet a criteria that included a minimum grade point average, good discipline record, excellent student conduct and achievement.

Students interviewed with a panel of judges, who then selected the winner.

At the school pep rally, Principal Erin Granier made a special announcement to students and surprised Peyton with the award.

Peyton’s mom, dad and sister also surprised him with their attendance at the pep rally.

Peyton will move on to the district level, where he will participate against other middle school recipients in St. Charles Parish for the Parish level winner.
