GONZALES — West St. John wasn’t in the mood to waste time after arriving in Gonzales to face Ascension Christian in the opening week of District 8-1A play. Just ask Lamore Boudoin and his offensive linemen.

Boudoin scored on a 56-yard touchdown run on the opening play from scrimmage and the Rams kept their roll going, West St. John earning a 60-0 win and its fourth victory of the season.

“Our kids have been working hard, and we’ve played some tough teams,” West St. John coach Robert Valdez said. “When we get to this part of the year, it’s about what we do and our own execution. Ascension Christian has a young program and they played very hard tonight. For us, we need to be sharp in our execution and play as hard as we can. We can’t afford to lose our edge.”

Boudoin rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns on three carries. Bradley Borne rushed seven times for 120 yards and two touchdowns. Morell Bartholomew earned his ninth and 10th touchdown receptions of the season, both on passes from Jemoine Green.

The Ram offense generated four scoring plays of 54 yards or more.

Green and Bartholomew connected twice for early touchdowns, from 12 and 58 yards out. Boudoin’s second long touchdown run, from 54 yards, made it a 24-0 score.

Then defensive lineman Covan Borne intercepted an attempted screen pass and the freshman took it the distance for a 33-yard touchdown return.

“I’m really happy for the kid, and he made a phenomenal play,” Valdez said. “He’s a freshman and he’s been in there against some very tough guys early on. I was excited to see him have a chance to shine there.”

Borne scored on back-to-back possessions to make it 45-0, on runs of 65 and 22 yards. Green connected with Jabari Walters for a 37-yard touchdown, and Juwan Boudoin and Jordae Gauthier combined for West St. John’s final score of the night on a 2-yard touchdown pass.

The Rams generated 508 yards of offense, 263 on the ground and 245 through the air. WSJ held the Ascension Christian offense to 36 total yards.

Green completed 7 of 8 pass attempts for 172 yards and three touchdowns. Bartholomew caught two passes for 70 yards, while Walters finished with four catches for 88 yards.

Marcus Boudoin and Tre’Von Borne intercepted passes for WSJ.
