Man sought for sex crime arrested in LaPlace

LAPLACE — Local authorities recently arrested a man wanted as a sex crime offender from New Jersey.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office announced today that deputies were notified Sept. 22 by the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office in New Jersey that a wanted sex crime offender from that agency was working in LaPlace.
Deputies responded Sept. 22 to a place of business in the 2000 block of Highway U.S. 51 in LaPlace and arrested Stephen Thomas, 63, on the outstanding fugitive warrant.
Sgt. Dane Clement said he was not aware of the exact charges Thomas was facing in New Jersey.
Thomas was arrested under the alias name of Steven Hallowed.
Subsequent to his arrest, deputies said Thomas used multiple alias names.
Thomas remains in custody in St. John the Baptist Parish, and will be transferred to New Jersey in the upcoming days.
