EDGARD — For the second straight year, West St. John’s defense largely stood up to the challenge of Holy Cross.
But for the second straight year, the Tigers’ defense was suffocating.
The Rams passed for just 116 yards and rushed for 43 as Holy Cross captured a 28-8 victory on the road to move to 3-1.
Laiton Johnson led Holy Cross with 108 yards on 17 carries. Quarterback Kyle Schexnayder and tight end Tyler Lamm combined for a pair of touchdowns.
Holy Cross blocked three punts, two partially, setting itself up for some short field opportunities.
The Rams earned their lone touchdown late in the game, when Jemoine Green found Bradley Borne for an 18-yard touchdown pass.
West St. John forced five fumbles, but Holy Cross recovered all of them.
Green and Juwan Boudoin shared time at quarterback in the contest due to an injury incurred by Green last week. Green finished with 101 yards passing.
The Rams fell to 2-2 with the loss.
