DESTREHAN — Harry Hurst Middle School students representing the Wetland Watchers recently presented to over 1,200 students from seven parishes at the Joe and Dorothy Brown Foundation Service Learning Grant Kick Off Celebration.
The Harry Hurst Wetland Watchers Service Learning Project was awarded a $4,920 grant to purchase supplies supporting the students’ efforts in education, service and awareness of wetland values and challenges.
Hurst teacher and Wetland Watcher Coordinator Barry Guillot said he is honored to be a recipient of the funds.
“The Brown Foundation is a part of funding so many fantastic projects around the New Orleans Region,” he said. “I am so glad that they value service learning as one of their top priorities.”
