Harold Iles served U.S. in Air Force

RESERVE — A resident of Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home, Harold Iles served his country from 1942 to 1945 in the United States Air Force.

He was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Alexandria; attended Bolton School and began his military career in 1942, stationed first at Camp Beauregard in Pineville.

His military travels, which included training in aircraft sheet metal repairs, took him to Utah, California, Georgia, Texas, Australia, New Guinea, the Dutch East Indies, the Philippines and Japan. Iles was honorably discharged Dec. 20, 1945.

Upon returning home, he married the former Eddy Huffman in 1948. They had three daughters together: Margaret, Edith and Patty.

Mrs. Iles died in 1990. They have six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The veterans home is always looking for volunteers to help in various roles from activities, room visits and talent shows.
