DESTREHAN 20, DUTCHTOWN 10 — For the second time in as many games, Dutchtown gave Destrehan a run for its money. But for the third time in a year’s time, the Wildcats defeated the Griffins in a Class 5A showdown.

Will Matthews scored twice, and Kirk Merritt found paydirt on a 72-yard run to help push DHS to 3-0 this season.

HAHNVILLE 45, LANDRY WALKER 39 — Hahnville played its second three-overtime game in as many weeks, but this time, the Tigers came away with the win.

The game-winning points came on a wild play in the third overtime when backup quarterback Austin Perrin — subbing for starter Mike Neal, who left the game injured — was stripped just before scoring. Hahnville recovered in the endzone for the game-winning points, with the defense holding on the Charging Bucs’ next possession.

Hahnville blocked a potential game-winning field goal attempt at the end of regulation.

Rickey Preston led Hahnville with 104 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
