RESERVE — A 14-year-old local boy was arrested this week after taking his father’s gun and looking for a man he said robbed him of a cell phone, authorities said.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 8000 block of Sunnyside Drive in Reserve at 4:33 p.m. Monday after receiving a fight report that included an alert of a juvenile in possession of a firearm.

When deputies arrived in the area, authorities said, witnesses identified a 14-year-old boy as the juvenile who possessed a pistol.

“The juvenile told deputies he was armed with a pistol, but he put the pistol in his residence before deputies arrived,” a release from the Sheriff’s Office said. “Deputies accompanied the juvenile to his residence, where deputies recovered the pistol the juvenile possessed.”

The juvenile told deputies a male subject pointed a pistol at him and grabbed his cell phone from his hands at about 4:20 p.m. at the intersection of Sunnyside and Grant drives.

“The juvenile went home to get his father’s pistol and returned to the corner looking for the subject that robbed him,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

Juvenile detectives were notified for further investigation.

Deputies arrested the 14-year-old, booking him with illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile. He was released to the custody of a parent.
