Maurin seeks Justice of the Peace

LAPLACE — Greg “Za” Maurin is announcing his candidacy for District 5 Justice of the Peace in St. John the Baptist Parish.

He plans to retire from the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office as captain with 32.6 years of service and having completed all police officers standard tests.

Maurin served as the commander of community relations and currently is a district attorney investigator, assigned to Juvenile Court and Adult Drug Court. Maurin said he seeks to be a fulltime Justice of the Peace for District 5, and have an office within the district with regular office hours and an after-hours contact number.

Maurin graduated from University of Louisiana Lafayette (formerly USL) in 1980 with a B.S. Degree in Psychology.

He has been married to Shelley Smith Maurin for 28 years and has three daughters, Rachael, Carly and Alaney.

He is an active member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus Council 5935, Past Grand Knight; LaPlace Lions Club, Past President; Keep St. John Beautiful; St. John United Way, Past President; Garden District Track Club; South Central Louisiana Safe Communities, Past President; Law Enforcement Torch Run; DuPont Community Advisory Board; St. John Parish Business Association and a chartered member of The River Region Chamber of Commerce.

Maurin is also a manager of family business A. Montz & Co.
