LAPLACE — Francesca Puglia, a sixth grade student at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School, won the chance to be “Sheriff for the Day” in the silent auction at the SJA parish fair.

Recently, she spent an exciting day with Sheriff Mike Tregre and his department members.

Tregre met Francesca in her homeroom class, where he swore her in as sheriff and gave her a badge to wear for the day.

Francesca toured the department offices, the 911 center and the detective bureau as part of her special day.

Her experience gave her insight into the career of a police officer, which is what she is interested in becoming when she gets older.
