LUTCHER — St. James Parish School Board member Charles Nailor Sr., a representative for District 6 and president of the board, surprised his fellow board members Tuesday evening by announcing he would resign at the end of his term this year.
The veteran school board members backed off the decision momentarily Wednesday, telling L’OBSERVATEUR public support from within his district and across St. James Parish made him rethink stepping down.
However, Nailor confirmed Thursday he is indeed not seeking reelection this year.
He had qualified last week to seek reelection. Others who qualified in his district are Freida W. Boughton and Tyler Jasmin.
“Doing this seems like I am turning my back on my constituents,” Nailor said Wednesday. “My ultimate goal in office may not be politically correct, but as long as I am morally right, I’m doing what is best for our (school) system and our students. They are our future.”
