ST. ROSE — A woman is facing a poisoning charge after her husband claimed she spiked his fruit punch, authorities said.

St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne said in a release Cherie LaGrange was arrested after she attempted to poison her husband by “pouring an unknown substance in a fruit punch drink that the victim was drinking.”

“The victim drank a large portion of the drink, at which time his throat immediately started burning, and the drink started coming out of his nose and mouth,” Champagne said. “The victim was treated on the scene by EMS.”

LaGrange is charged with mingling harmful substances. She is being held on a $25,000 bond.

Capt. Patrick Yoes said the husband and wife were in the residence when the victim first drank fruit punch from the refrigerator.

“He went outside to clean his car,” Yoes said. “The two got into an argument. He came back in, fixed another drink from the same pitcher out of the refrigerator. At that point, there was something poured in it. He immediately recognized something was poured in it. He ended up spitting it out all over the floor and contacting the Sheriff’s Office.”

Yoes said LaGrange, implicated by the victim, was arrested at the home.
