CONVENT — A Vacherie man has been arrested for indecent behavior with a juvenile.

St. James Parish Sheriff Willy Martin Jr. said the case began Aug. 15 when the mother of the reported victim called law enforcement to say her 10-year-old daughter was the possible victim of abuse.

“As we followed up on it, we had the little girl interviewed,” Martin said. “After we interviewed her, she revealed enough information for us to actually go out and get the warrant to arrest (a suspect) on indecent behavior.”

Joseph Christy, 32, of Vacherie, was arrested and has since posted $150,000 bond, Martin said.

According to authorities, the juvenile is doing OK and was not hospitalized.

Martin said he does not believe the case will expand to include more charges or victims.

“I don’t see anything else coming up involving this victim unless somebody comes up,” he said. “We don’t know of anything right now. This is the only victim. (The suspect) is somewhat connected to the family through relationships.”
