LAPLACE — River Parishes Hospital announced Heather Gamble Champagne, a registered nurse in the emergency room, as the July Employee of the Month.

Champagne was presented with balloons, an Employee of the Month Certificate and a check for $100. She will have her picture displayed on the Employees of Excellence wall in the main front entrance of the hospital.

Champagne has been employed at River Parishes Hospital for nearly four years. She has excellent assessment skills and is able to prioritize and multitask based on the needs of her patients.

“Heather (Champagne) is a positive role model in the emergency room,” said Kathy Bruce, emergency room director. “She is a steward for guest relations with her warm, welcoming smile and energetic personality and is a true advocate for her patients, assuring they receive excellent care while in our department.”

Champagne has been cross-trained as a charge nurse. She serves as a preceptor for new nurses to the department and shares her knowledge to assist them in developing their nursing skills.

She also assists in monitoring par levels and places orders when needed to ensure adequate supplies are on hand.

“We are fortunate to have Heather (Champagne) as a nurse in our department,” Bruce said. “She works collaboratively with other departments in the hospital, consistently focused on the best possible outcome for the patient. She also communicates well with family members, keeping them informed of the patient’s condition.”

In addition to her responsibilities in the emergency room, Champagne serves on the Employee Activity Committee and assists in coordinating and hosting monthly activities for her coworkers, physicians and volunteers.

She also volunteers to represent the hospital at various community events and most recently helped with the concussion awareness programs.

Champagne says she is honored to be selected employee of the month and enjoys working in the emergency room because she thrives on the diversity and fast-paced environment.

“Every day is different,” she said. “You are able to treat patients with many different types of medical conditions.”

A native of LaPlace, Champagne lives in Luling with husband Jake and their dog, Roux. She enjoys shopping, running, playing soccer and spending time with nephew Colson.
