LULING — Authorities are searching the Mississippi River for a suspected suicide victim.

Capt. Patrick Yoes of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office said at approximately 2:51 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a vehicle parked on top of Hale Boggs Bridge (Luling Bridge).

“Upon arrival, officers observed an unoccupied vehicle with the engine running and lights on,” Yoes said. “Officers also discovered a suicide note inside of the vehicle.”

The St. Charles Sheriff’s Office Marine Division, U.S. Coast Guard and Port of South Louisiana officials continue to search the river, Yoes said, but have not recovered a body.

At this time, authorities are not releasing a name.
