EDGARD — A young St. John couple avoided serious injury following an overnight run-in with armed intruders.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office reported deputies responded to 200 block of Amp Circle at 12:53 a.m. Thursday in Edgard following a home-invasion report.

A male victim, 25, told deputies he and his girlfriend, 22, were sleeping when two men with guns entered their residence and demanded money, authorities said.

“(The victim) told them that he did not have any money,” a release from the Sheriff’s Office said. “When the intruders went to another room, the male victim jumped out of the residence through the bedroom window.”

The intruders fled the scene, deputies said, and nothing was taken from the residence.

The male victim was treated for a minor cut on his arm sustained when he leaped through the window. The female victim was uninjured.

“Deputies saw no sign of forced entry,” authorities said.
