LAPLACE — Krewe du Monde, the largest Mardi Gras parade in the River Parishes, will hold its first interest meeting for the 2015 parade Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the St. John Parish Central Library, located at 2920 Highway 51 in LaPlace.

A parade with a purpose, du Monde is a fundraiser for the local chapter of the Lion’s Club.

“The du Monde ball and parade are two very exciting fundraising events in the River Parishes,” said Sr. John Councilman Michael Wright, who has participated for several years.

“I encourage all that have the opportunity to catch in on the excitement.”

LaPlace resident Carol Rizzuto agrees, saying she looks forward to riding in the parade all year.

Organizers said anyone or any group interested in participating in the parade, including dance groups, float riders or local pageant winners, is encouraged to attend Wednesday to learn about participation, associated fees and deadlines.

Contracts will be available at the library for participants to sign up on the spot, or may be taken home for review.
