Published 11:45 pm Friday, July 25, 2014

I am hosting an informational meeting about home schooling called Homeschooling 101 at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Charles East Regional Library (160 W. Campus Drive) in Destrehan.

We will talk about the benefits of teaching your children at home, including tailoring your child’s education to their learning styles. I will explain Louisiana Law concerning home schooling and the parents’ options including the Private School Option and the Home Study Act.

We will discuss the different curriculum options including textbooks, workbooks, unit studies, computer courses and un-schooling.

There will be information on support groups in our area and in our state, as well as the many field trip, team sports and group activities available in the Greater New Orleans area.

We would be happy to answer any questions parents may have on home schooling, such as reasons to homeschool or specific questions on where to buy curriculum.

It is free and open to all parents interested in learning about home schooling.

They can contact me with questions and RSVP to me at theallws@cox.net.
