Woman arrested for using counterfeit $100 bills

LAPLACE — A New Orleans woman was arrested over the weekend after authorities said she was using counterfeit bills in St. John the Baptist Parish.
St. John deputies responded at 5:06 p.m. Sunday to Dollar General on West Airline Highway in LaPlace after a store employee recognized and reported a women trying to pay for a prepaid card with counterfeit $100 bills.
“When deputies arrived at the store, they recovered five counterfeit $100 bills and detained the woman,” a release from the Sheriff’s Office said. “Deputies identified (the suspect) as Cynthia Spears, 27, of Lawrence Road in New Orleans.”
Spears was arrested on five counts of monetary instrument abuse. Authorities said she posted a $10,000 bond and was released Monday.
Detectives notified the U.S. Secret Service of the counterfeit bill seizure.
