LAPLACE — Staff members and teachers of Lake Pontchartrain Elementary were allowed access to their campus on Highway 51 Tuesday, as well as a few days last week.

They were allowed to gather any personal belongings left at the school that has been shuttered since 2012’s Hurricane Isaac caused extensive flooding.

Plans for a new building are currently being finalized, and the school’s new campus is slated to open in fall 2017.

All South Consulting Engineers’ Cindy Janecke said anything salvageable, such as doors and some desks, will be environmentally cleaned prior to demolition and used in the new building.
