LAPLACE — Pencils, paper, crayons, jumpers, skirts and shirts are items on the need-to-buy lists of parents of school-aged children all around St. John the Baptist Parish.

Parents doling out cash on such items need to keep in mind that the Louisiana Annual Sales Tax Holiday is coming up.

The Louisiana Annual Sales Tax Holiday provides an exemption from state sales tax on the first $2,500 of the purchase price of most individual items of tangible personal property for non-business use, which includes all school supplies and uniforms.

Under Louisiana law, the annual sales tax holiday takes place on the first consecutive Friday and Saturday each August. The 2014 sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 1 and continues through 11:59 p.m. Aug. 2.

The weekend provides parents and caregivers the opportunity to stretch their dollars a little further over the two-day sales tax break.

School supply lists and uniform requirements vary by school, but here’s a condensed round up of information for schools in St. John Parish.

All parish public school supply lists and uniform requirements can be found by visiting stjohn.k12.la.us/pages/SJBP and clicking on “Parents & Students” in the top left corner.

For students of St. Charles Catholic High School, St. Joan of Arc, Riverside Academy and Ascension of Our Lord, school uniforms can be purchased from Children’s World, located at 924 Carollwood Drive in LaPlace. Each school’s physical education uniforms, and socks if applicable to school, can be bought from the respective school during operating hours.

For SCC students, Dr. Courtney Millet said individual teacher supply lists will be posted on teachers’ Edline pages and some lists may be sent home the first day of school.

She said SCC department heads suggest students begin purchasing the following basic items now: notebooks, pens, pencils, yellow highlighters, college-ruled paper, index cards, pocketed folders, a planner and a flash drive.

As far as school supply lists go, St. Joan of Arc students can find theirs at sja-school.com, Riverside students can find theirs at riversideacademy.com and Ascension of our Lord students can find theirs at aolcrusaders.org.

Students at St. Peter Catholic School in Reserve can get their school uniforms, as well as their P.E. uniforms, from Children’s World. Supply lists can be found at stpeterreserve.org.

Our Lady of Grace students can purchase their school uniforms from Children’s World or Logo Express, located at 1613 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace. P.E. uniforms can be purchased through the school, and supply lists can be found at olgschool.eduk12.net.

For students at LifeHouse Daniel Academy, school officials said all supply and uniform information can be found at lifehousedanielacademy.com.
