LAPLACE — Detectives seized eight marijuana plants this month during a search of a backyard on Acadia Drive in LaPlace.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics detectives initiated the investigation July 1 after receiving information that marijuana plants were being grown in a shed in the backyard of a residence in the 1900 block of Acadia Drive.

Based on the investigation, authorities said, narcotics detectives obtained and executed a judicial court authorized search warrant on July 2 at the residence.

“During the execution of the search warrant, narcotics detectives seized eight marijuana plants,” a release from the sheriff’s office said. “They also seized lights and potting soil, used in the cultivation of the plants, and cups with ‘OG’, ‘KUSH’, and ‘ICE’ handwritten on them. These terms are commonly known as street names used to refer to high-grade marijuana.”

Detectives arrested Courtney Savage, 28, the homeowner, at her residence July 8, charging her with attempted or conspiracy to cultivation.

Savage bonded out of jail on a $20,000 bond.

Authorities said they released the information this week because there was an expectation that additional charges may follow the initial arrest, but the investigation concluded with no additional charges.
