LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office deputies found an unidentified man dead this morning in the 1900 block of Jasper Lane in New Era Subdivision in LaPlace.

Authorities arrived to the scene at 8:21 a.m. today and have not identified the victim publicly.

The case is St. John the Baptist Parish’s fourth homicide this year.

The victim was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

“The scene is active,” a release from the Sheriff’s Office said. “Investigators are in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person or persons responsible and to determine a motive for this murder.”
