St. Hubert hosting July 4 fun

GARYVILLE — St. Hubert’s Catholic Church is holding its annual Independence Day Celebration on Friday, on the church grounds, 176 Anthony F Monica St. in Garyville.

The event will have food, bingo, bunco and washer board games, a car show and barbeque cook-off. The daylong event will conclude with a fireworks display.

The 4th of July Celebration begins at 11 a.m. with barbeque chicken dinners along with other food items and homemade treats at the sweet booth.

A free bunco game for those 12 and over will begin at 1 p.m. Prizes will be awarded.

Bingo includes 10 regular games, four specials and a black out game and begins at 5 p.m.

Organizers are also looking for teams to participate in the washer board tournament. The entry fee is $20 for a two-person team. The tournament will begin at 3 p.m.

A barbeque cook off and car show have added to this celebration.

“This year is our first BBQ and Fixin’s Cook Off,” organizers said. “We are seeking teams to participate in this event. Each team is asked to prepare their favorite barbeque meat, along with a side dish. All cooking must be done on-site. Along with the meat and sides, there is also a dessert division.”

Completed desserts should be brought to the site by 2:30 p.m. There is no entry fee, however, all prepared food will be donated to St Hubert’s 4th of July Celebration.

The Car Show will run from 2 to 5 p.m. All makes and models are welcomed. The entry fee is $25 with awards going to the Top 20 as well as Best of Show.

Judging begins at 3 p.m., concluding with awards at 5 p.m.

Children’s activities begin at 5 p.m. and include games such as sack races, egg toss and other activities.

The day-long celebration will culminate with a fireworks display beginning at 9 p.m.

Parking is available around the church facility. Bring lawn chairs for a curbside view of the display.
