Letter to the editor: Family time should always be important

When was the last time your family sat around the dinner table and had a conversation without the TV taking center stage?

When was the last time your family had a conversation about the world events?

When was the last time your family went on vacation together? When was the last time your family had a conversation without arguing about silly things?

When was the last time your family went to church together and didn’t argue about what to wear? When was the last time your family told each other how much love they had for each other?

If you can’t answer at least one of these questions, then your family has some serious problems to talk about.

In this fast-paced world, the family life is almost a footnote. We call the family shows from the 60s too old fashioned. Is it because we long for the life on these shows?

If you notice, they rarely sit around watching the TV. What did we do before cell phones and video games?

We had quality family times. We talked to one another without texting. We cared if a family member had a problem. We talked about how to help them.

We have become a society that forgot about the real meaning of the family.

What would happen if we could not watch TV or play video games?

Think it couldn’t happen? Wait until the power goes out in a storm.

Whether you realize or not, this is probably going to be the best time to discover your family life.

Don’t wait until this happens. Rediscover the family life. Don’t wait until everyone grows up and leaves the nest. By then it is too late!
