LULING — Jill Schmill, the procurement agent for St. Charles Parish, was named outstanding employee of the year.
Schmill of Luling is a 23-year employee, having served the entirety of her career in the procurement office.
Schmill’s award came as St. Charles Parish honored 89 employees for attendance and service during its 32nd annual Civil Service Awards and Training Program June 5 at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center.
St. Charles Parish Personnel Director Sandra Zimmer said Schmill is well respected by her co-workers and the many vendors she consults with on the job.
“In addition to leading an office that is responsible for nearly all daily parish purchasing, she also works to ensure that responders receive necessary supplies during emergencies,” Zimmer said.
“Those who know Jill are inspired by her ability to remain calm and positive, even in a crisis, displaying a quiet can-do demeanor.”
A committee made up of appointed and civil service employees from various departments chose Schmill from a field of nominees. This year’s committee included Jeanne Arabie, Jan Comardelle, Ruby Dennis, Kimberly Marousek, Orin Taylor, Sheila Toney and Chad Troxclair.
In addition, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Louisiana Community Wellness Administrator Angele Womble discussed the wellness resources available to parish employees.
