Thibodaux — Hundreds applied; few were selected.
But, St. James High School’s Daija Gibson, a 10th grader, and Emily Faucheux, a 9th grader, received the honor of attending the Louisiana Girls’ Leadership Academy held June 8-11 at Nicholls State University.
The leadership academy, sponsored by the Louisiana Center for Women in Government and Business, offered the girls the opportunity to attend multiple workshops to develop and/or improve their skills in communication, relationship building, and the art of public service.
The program also taught the girls about developing leadership skills, including what it takes to become a leader and why it is important to lead others. They even heard from Elizabeth Smart, who shared her story about being abducted and overcoming the ordeal to lead a fulling life.
