LAPLACE — With hurricane season in full swing, a local agency is providing a resource for parents to help children understand emotions associated with hurricanes.

Child Advocacy Services created “Prepared, Not Scared” in 2007 as an interactive resource for families, and so far over 5,000 copies have been distributed.

“Prepared, Not Scared” was developed following hurricanes Katrina and Rita, when CAS experienced an overwhelming request to provide counseling in local communities to families displaced by the storms.

As anxieties and expectations with upcoming hurricane seasons continue to increase, CAS said a need developed from parents and community members to create an interactive resource for children and parents to do together and discuss these feelings further.
