NEW ORLEANS — Girl Scouts of all ages recently gathered with their families in the St. Louis Cathedral for a special awards ceremony.

The following Brownie Girl Scouts received the Family of God award: Rebecca Dugas, Caroline Green and Emma Headings of St. Charles Borromeo Troop 21123 in Destrehan.

The following Cadette Girl Scouts earned the Mary, The First Disciple award: Rachel Duffy and LiAnn Schexnayder of St. Charles Borromeo Troop 20064 in Destrehan and Jordan Callahan of Troop 20165 in Destrehan, Alyssia Duval, Catelyn Errington, Michelle Hue, Margo Matherne, Rebekah Travis and Emily Zeringue of St. Gertrude Troop 20554 in Des Allemands.

In addition to Catholicism, there are over 20 religious recognitions programs available to Girl Scouts by various religious groups (Baptist, Methodist, Jewish, etc.) to encourage girls to grow stronger in their faith.

The Girl Scouts of the USA recognizes these programs and allows the recognition insignia to be worn on the official uniform, but each religious organization develops and administers its own program.
