River Parishes students finish college year strong

NATCHITOCHES — Faculty members of the Department of Foreign Languages at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts recently recognized students who placed in various foreign language events held throughout the spring semester.
Dr. David Wood, principal lecturer of French, recognized students who participated in the National French Contest, district literary rally and the Foreign Language Festival.
Students receiving a Certificat d’Honneur included Ethan Guerra, a senior from Lutcher, for placing 12th in state and 14th in national.
Honorable mention went to Neel Reddy, a junior from Destrehan and Guerra.
NATCHITOCHES — Ninety-two seniors comprised the 30th graduating class of the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts and they participated in their commencement ceremony on May 24, in Prather Coliseum located on the campus of Northwestern State University.
“Graduates, we are here today to make this a truly memorable occasion so that you can look back on the accomplishments of this day with pride and with appreciation,” said Dr. Patrick Widhalm, executive director. “Seniors, soon to be graduates, this coliseum is filled with people who believe in you and who respect your accomplishments.”
Graduating students included: From St. Charles Parish, Sebastian Weinell of Destrehan; from St. James Parish, Khalilah Al-Amin of Convent and Ethan Guerra of Lutcher; and from St. John the Baptist Parish, Cheyenne Ortiz of LaPlace
SHREVEPORT — A total of 163 Centenary students, including La Place native Bernard Sanchez, have been named to the Dean’s List for spring 2014.
The honor list names all students who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in 12 or more semester hours taken for a letter grade during the spring semester.
LAKE CHARLES — The President’s Honor List for the spring 2014 semester at McNeese State University has been announced, including several River Region students.
To be on the President’s Honor List, an undergraduate student must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average or better while carrying at least 15 semester hours.
The President’s Honor List includes Reynaldo Deron Young of Garyville, Marcus Mitchell Brinkman and Joshua E. Smith of LaPlace and Spencer Floyd Albert of Luling.
McNeese’s Honor Roll lists undergraduate students earning at least a 3.0 or B average while carrying 12 or more semester hours.
Honor Roll earners include Jared Lamar Mack of Destrehan, Brittany Leigh McMurry of LaPlace, Jalen Alexander Byrd of Luling and Mason A. Matirne of St. James.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Over 650 students received degrees during May Commencement at William Carey University.
Area students earning degrees include Ayesha Lay of Hahnville, Bachelor of Science and Alicia Sentimore of Norco, Bachelor of Science.
FAYETTE, Iowa — Laura Diggs, a social science major from Paulina, was named to the Upper Iowa University 2013-14 Spring Dean’s List.
To be honored, the full-time undergraduate must have earned a minimum 3.5 GPA for the semester.
