LAPLACE — Members of Phi Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha  honored Kaitlyn Cayette of Donaldsonville High School, Amanda Newsome of St. Charles Catholic High School and Asha Pierce of St. James High School with college scholarships totaling $2,400. 

The honorees were presented with plaques and certificates of achievement at the chapter’s annual Scholarship Brunch, which was held June 1 at La Belle Place Reception and Conference Center in LaPlace.

Many of the members of Phi Sigma Omega Chapter wore hats to enhance the banquet’s “Hats Off To You” theme.

President Chandra Darville welcomed the guests and the honorees, and music was provided by local musician Ian Villafana. Mary Gauthier-Lewis served as the program hostess. 

Additional key program participants included Linda Colar, A. Denise Graves and Valaray Irvin. Door prizes for brunch guests were provided by St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre, state Rep. Randall Gaines, Dr. Claudette Aubert and the scholarship committee. 

Raffle baskets were donated by Mamie D. Terry of Houston. 

Ticket sales and raffle revenue will be used to fund the 2015 college scholarships.
