Low water pressure in St. John could result from hydrant testing

LAPLACE — Twice annually the St. John Fire Department performs inspections to assure fire hydrants across St. John the Baptist Parish are functioning, provide adequate water flow and maintain adequate system pressure.

The inspection process involves opening and closing valves, checking water pressure and verifying hydrants have sufficient flow for firefighting.

Based on those inspections, the utilities department and Boh Bros. Construction Company are completing repairs and replacing fire hydrants throughout the parish.

Throughout this process, residents may temporarily experience little to no water pressure for a maximum of two to four hours where work is being performed.

When this occurs, the communications department will notify residents in the impacted area by phone, email and text.

Repairs will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays. For questions or concerns, call the St. John Utilities Department at 985-651-7731.
