Tips to Prevent Summer Hair Woes

(StatePoint) The summer brings with it warm sunny weather and fun dips in the pool. But all that outdoor fun can take its toll on your hair.

Hat Hair

Hats play a big role in summer wardrobes, shielding you from the harsh rays of the sun. For some, however, hats may cause problems, including such benign woes as “hat hair.”

“To avoid it, try this simple trick. Run a fabric dryer sheet over your head before and after you put on or take off your hat,” says expert celebrity stylist, Jim Crawford. “This eliminates static.”

If you need to add back more volume try using a baby wipe, he adds. This will dampen your hair just enough. It removes a bit of natural oils and regenerates volume that can get flattened from being pressed down to your head by a hat.

Dandruff

Hats, may be worn not only to keep the sun off your head, but to hide flakes. Changes in temperature can often lead to flares of seborrheic dermatitis.

For his part, Crawford often talks about scalp flakiness with models and celebrities in the course of getting their hair ready for photo shoots, movies and commercials.

“Obviously,” he says, “the trick is to get rid of it. But, sometimes it isn’t that easy. A lot of models have told me they are frustrated with dandruff shampoos, because they often strip hair color and undo expensive treatments such as body waves and keratin treatments.”

New alternatives for  dandruff control  now include such prescription products as Promiseb® Complete™ from Promius Pharma LLC, which provides a scalp wash called Promiseb® Plus Scalp Wash, along with topical Promiseb® Cream in one convenient package. The scalp wash can help manage the appearance of redness and flakes in the scalp. So, instead of hiding under a hat, gentle massaging after applying Promiseb Plus Scalp Wash will help stimulate the scalp and wash away flakes.

“What I love about Promiseb Plus Scalp Wash is it doesn’t affect hair color, body waves or keratin treatments,” says Crawford. Indeed, in clinical studies using human hair tresses, there was no stripping of color, no effect on body waves, perms or keratin treatments after as many as 50 washings, according to research conducted by Promius Pharma.

This may be a way to protect the monetary investment you’ve made in your hair, Crawford points out.

Promiseb Topical Cream is a nonsteroidal prescription cream indicated to manage and relieve the signs and symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis such as scaling, erythema, pruritus, and pain. It is contraindicated in persons with a known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation. It does not contain milk, wheat, peanut, or animal derivatives. Promiseb Topical Cream does contain shea butter (Butyrospermum parkii), a derivative of shea nut oil (not peanut oil). Patients with a known allergy to nuts or nut oil should consult their physician before using this topical preparation.

The use of Promiseb Plus™ Scalp Wash is contraindicated for patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. Massage gently upon application to loosen and help wash away flakes.  “Women, and men, have so many options to make their hair look its best these days,” says Crawford. “There’s really no excuse anymore for looking less than fabulous. And, keep in mind, there is just never any excuse for letting flakes spoil a great look!”
